Dr. Hans Blix, former Chief Weapons Inspector, to speak on WMD at Fletcher School Conference this Friday
MEDFORD, MA. - Against the backdrop of mounting concerns over North Korea and Iran’s nuclear programs, and the continuing controversy over Iraq’s alleged nuclear weapons program – the primary justification for the U.S. invasion of Iraq -- Dr. Hans Blix, the former head of the International Atomic Energy (IAEA) and former head of the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC), will deliver an address at The Fletcher School at Tufts University this Friday, Oct. 21, 2005.Dr. Blix’s speech, which begins at 1:30 p.m., is the highlight of a one-day conference on the non-proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction. Some of the issues Dr. Blix is expected to cover involve: the state of arms control in the world; the Bush Administration’s tough-minded policies toward the United Nations, the U.S. decision not to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty; and, the worrisome questions of how to dissuade North Korea and Iran from fuel cycle activities.
