Enlightened Power: Are Women Transforming Leadership? Fletcher School to Host Conference this Monday, March 13, 6-8pm
Medford/Somerville, Mass. Are Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart the new symbols of success in the corporate world? Are the “fair trade" practices in goods and services being adopted by companies such as Eileen Fisher and Starbucks part of a new trend? Why are corporate giants such as Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft establishing foundations as a cornerstone of their brands and management practices?Are you ready for some "enlightened power?" Quietly and without much media fanfare, a group of pioneering women are leading the way toward a re-imagined model for leadership, success and responsibility, and are helping to transform corporate America -- indeed, many of our other institutions as well.
To explore these exciting developments, this Monday, March 13, from 6-8 p.m., the International Business Program at The Fletcher School at Tufts University will host a conference highlighted by a panel discussion of experts called "Enlightened Power: How Women are Transforming Leadership."
The panelists include:
* Dr. Evelyn Murphy, former Lieutenant Government of Massachusetts [1987-1991] and the first woman in Massachusetts history to hold statewide office. Founder and President of The WAGE (Women Are Getting Even) Project Inc., which is dedicated to closing the wage gap in every American workplace and author of Getting Even: Why Women Don't Get Paid Like Men and What to Do About It.
* Masuda Sultan, Co-Director of Women for Afghan Women and the author of My War at Home. As an international activist and human rights advocate, she has worked with Women for Afghan Women and The Initiative for Inclusive Security. She has organized women leaders from across Afghanistan to advocate for women's rights in the new constitution and produce the Afghan Women's Bill of Rights. She has appeared on “Oprah,” PBS, CNN, and ABC News, and has been interviewed by The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times.
* Ellen Wingard, Executive Coach and Co-Editor of the book, Enlightened Power: How Women are Transforming the Practice of Leadership. A pioneer in the field of executive coaching, Ellen has coached CEOs, executive teams and emerging leaders to achieve better business results over the past 25 years in leading academic medical institutions, financial services and, organizations such as Citizens Bank, Dupont-Merck, Harvard Business School Press, Harvard Medical School, Morgan Stanley and The New York Times.
* Linda C. Coughlin, Chief Administrative Officer for Cendant Corp. where she is responsible for the company's brand and business units. Cendant is the foremost provider of travel and real estate services in the world.
* Mary Puma, Chairman and CEO, Axcelis Technologies. She has played an instrumental role in the company's spin off from Eaton Corporation in 2000, when she wasdnamed president and chief operating officer.
