The Roots of Terrorism
Fletcher School master's student and terrorism expert Lorenzo Vidino talks about the relationship between Europe and Islamic fundamentalism.

Medford/Somerville, Mass. [04.21.06] The threat of terrorism and Islamic extremism continues to raise concerns around the world. With his extensive background studying the causes of Islamic fundamentalism and the roots of terror networks, first year Fletcher School master's student Lorenzo Vidino is emerging as a major voice on these complex and pressing issues.
Vidino recently wrote a critically acclaimed book, Al Qaeda in Europe: The New Battleground of International Jihad, which examines the key role Europe plays in the war on terror. He has written widely on this subject, penning recent op-ed columns for the Boston Herald and the Washington Times, and has testified before Congress.
This spring, Vidino sat down with E-News to talk about the state of Islamic fundamentalism in Europe, the progress of the United States in the war on terror and the future of Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda terror network.
