Fletcher alumnus Claudio X. Gonzalez Guajardo receives award from CASE

Fletcher alumnus Claudio X. Gonzalez Guajardo was named the recipient of the prestigious James L. Fisher Award for Distinguished Service to Education by CASE at its annual national conference in NYC on July 10, 2006.

Throughout his career, González has worked to improve education in Mexico. Under his guidance, the not-for-profit organization UNETE has provided computer equipment to more than 2,800 public schools in Mexico, helping more than one million students. As president of Televisa Foundation, he has directed the launch of a number of national educational initiatives, including campaigns to promote teacher training and reading. For example, based on findings that many individuals in Mexico read only one book a year, the foundation launched a promotion to encourage the use of dictionaries, encyclopedias and other books in public elementary schools. As a result of that campaign, nearly 450 public elementary schools have received nearly 135,000 books since 2002. Read More »
